And then they give the same argument to people who say that Easter is based off of Ishtar, a Mesopotamian goddess give. And like they're...

There's even people who are like Christians were like, no, Easter isn't pagan. Yeah, we did get the bunnies and the eggs from like the celebration of Estra, but that's that's it. No, not even that. The eggs come from Lent because people would abstain from animal products during Lent and then hard boil the eggs at the end and then eat them as part of the Lenten feast.

Or in the case of in 1290, Edward Longshanks was like, you know, it'd be fun. Decorated eggs. Give me 450 of them, which probably means that the practice had originated slightly earlier, but that's just the first documented version. 1290 A.D. Bede was writing in the 700s that there used to be a festival. Used to be. In the 700s. And there's no further description of what the festival involved.

The time between, yeah, the time between Edward Longshanks ordering some eggs and Bede saying there used to be a festival is longer than the amount of time the United States has been settled by Western Europeans. Yeah.

The time between the death of Augustus Caesar and the fall of Rome is shorter than the time between Edward Longshanks ordering decorated eggs and Bede saying there used to be a festival.

None. Also, the other thing is, it's not even that Easter, like the Easter holiday is named after this goddess. The Easter holiday is named after the month of Eostormonat, which is named after the goddess. There was no point at which Easter was named after the goddess. Easter was named after a month that was named after a goddess. There's still a degree of separation here.

Yeah. Which is why the Ishtar argument makes no sense. They're like, Easter, Ishtar, obviously. It's like, I can do word association too. But no, these people called the goddess Ishtar, these people called the holiday Pascha, and these people called it Easter. These people and these people didn't know the other existed. Really?

I mean, there might have been a few individuals who did, but the vast majority of people living in England in the 700s didn't know Ishtar ever existed. That's the other thing. People tend to have this idea that throughout history, everyone has known as much about other cultures as we did now. There are long periods of time where entire cultures were lost to history.
