Miss Maury for $2 says, for Thornberry's cold open, 10 out of 10 would watch again. Thank you. I was entertained by how many people were commenting. Either, hey, good to see him on the Friday video, or who's the random guy at the start?

Yeah, he texted me and he was like, we forgot to film a cold open. And I was like, do you want to just say this? And then I told him what to say.

That was how it went. It was generally along the lines of what I was planning. But it was his wording and then just me saying it. At least we know it's a good way for us to do that again. Yeah. If I had a nickel for every time we forgot to do the cold open. Mattis would probably take it and add it to his collection. Yeah. That'd be funny. E.K.

from 499 says, can you explain again how Easter is Christian, not pagan, to the smooth brains of Christus Rex? I don't know. Christus Rex means Christus King. I wasn't sure if that was a saying or he was calling someone out. Overfloweth its vessel and watereth the soul.

Yeah. So, I mean, to just do the really quick version, Easter isn't pagan. It was never pagan. All of the arguments that Easter is pagan are basically word association based upon Internet rumors. The biggest one is Ostara or Estra or Eostre. Inspiring Philosophy has a great short on this that he just put up on YouTube and Instagram and everything.

Basically, the version of events you get from a lot of neo-pagans and people who are just generally being weird about it is that... Easter is actually a rebranded version of the festival of Aostra or Ostara, who was a Germanic pagan fertility goddess, and that the whole thing was just a way to convert pagans to Christianity. that is complete bullshit.

Uh, we know exactly like this much about that Germanic goddess. It comes from one paragraph in the reckoning of time by the venerable bead, who was a eighth century Anglo Saxon Saint. And all he said is, which is their name for April at the time. Um, which is now called the Paschal month, Paschal month, which Pascha is the actual term for Easter.

We use Easter because we have, we speak a Germanic language. So they called the month, which was named for a goddess of theirs, whose festival they celebrated at the beginning of, or during that month. And that's really all it says. He doesn't say anything about what the festival was. There's nothing about bunnies or eggs or any sort of other reference to Easter as we know it.

It's possible this wasn't even actually a goddess because this is the only mention that we have in any historical document ever. Just this one. Says nothing about the celebration. And more importantly, Easter was being celebrated before Christianity got to Germany. It's also not based off of Ishtar.
