Suddenly he hears voices speaking English in American accents.
And this is not supposed to be on the radio.
Something very strange is going on.
So he's certainly very confused.
They walk around the US ambassador's residence, scanning every single bit of the residence, and they cannot find any bugs.
They can't find any source of these voices.
The most frenemy that anyone has ever been, possibly.
They were technically allies.
They had, of course, been allies throughout the Second World War in fighting primarily in Europe against the Nazis, but also in the final stages of the Pacific War, the Soviets joined that war and contributed to the Japanese surrender.
So they're still in a state of more friend than enemy...
than they would be after the Soviets found out about the bomb, which was a couple of days later.
Starting the Cold War and the arms race to, you know, for the Soviets to develop their own nuclear weapons and the US to build up their nuclear weapons arsenal.
So this was very much the calm before the storm.
So it's a wooden carving of the great seal, you know, the eagle with the shield in front of it.
And in its talons, it's got arrows and it's got an olive branch and the words E Pluribus Unum above the eagle's head, meaning out of many, one, the US motto.
It's not the exact seal that you would see, you know, on Donald Trump's podium these days.
It's a slightly sort of a modification of it.
And that's because there wasn't a standard US seal.
in 1945 when this carving had been given to the ambassador.
You can see there is a tiny little hole in the carving just under the eagle's beak.
