I was talking earlier about the idea that the person at the county clerk's office is not really paying that close of attention to what is being filed.
Again, their job is to record the deeds, not to look at the validity of the deeds transferring property.
And that's what allows these home title thefts to occur.
Now, Texas just passed some legislation kind of holding them accountable.
And I actually did some consulting with the Texas state legislature on the law, and it's a good law.
And it
Texas is going to be stepping up and forcing their recorders of deeds to get some anti-fraud training and do some mandating reporting if they suspect something's wrong, kind of like the banks do suspicious activity reports.
Nobody ever asked me to chime in on laws.
I wasn't paid for it.

So I want to tell a story about someone who worked for the Recorder of Deeds in Cook County, which is where in Illinois, which is where I'm from, from Chicago.

I don't have a ton of details about how this came to be, but a bad guy got caught doing something bad by the FBI.
And and they're always given a chance to cooperate.
