The babies hatch, the larvae hatch, and they can hang out in there, but they can't yet eat themselves.

So the dad will do this thing that you see with birds, like chew it and then feed them from it.

And, and, and they'll defend their kids from animals that could be like a hundred times bigger, like a mouse.

Like there's no chance, right, that they're going to be able to do it.

One of the ways that they do this is they have this nasty smelling chemical that they can make.

And then the last part of this, and very relevant for a conversation, sometimes the mom, the mom will just wander off.

And if the mom just wanders off, the dad will raise the whole family by himself, which is like 10, 20, 30 babies per brood.
