In a statement, Mossad Boulos, President Trump's senior advisor for African affairs, said the U.S.
commends the decision by Sudanese authorities to extend the opening of the Adre border crossing for humanitarian access.
According to the U.N., Adre, which lies along Sudan's border with Chad,
is a critical lifeline for delivery of life-saving assistance into Sudan.
In September last year, Sudanese authorities had said the crossing would remain open to humanitarian aid convoys until the end of 2025, but recently announced an extension until the end of March this year.
The conflict in Sudan has led to a humanitarian crisis, with thousands killed and millions displaced.

According to Guinea's election commission, Mamadi Dumbuya garnered over 86% of the votes, with his main challenger, former government minister Yerobalde, obtaining just over 6% of the votes counted.
Dumbuya is head of the country's military junta that seized power in a coup in 2021.
Last weekend's polls took place amid concerns about economic challenges facing the West African nation, with the UN saying more than half of Guinea's population are facing record levels of poverty.
Critics of the country's military government have accused it of clamping down on political opposition and suppressing civil rights.

In a statement posted on social media, the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, has described the conditions faced by those who have fled the fighting in eastern Congo as terrible.
The agency warns that there is not enough food and water to cater for those who have fled, citing that they are also facing inadequate shelter and health care provision.
Fighting in eastern Congo between the Rwandan-backed M23 rebels and Congolese forces has been going on for decades now.
In mid-December, the UN warned that within a period of two weeks, over 84,000 people had fled to neighboring Burundi, overwhelming reception sites that had been set up to provide assistance.

The army officers appeared on the country's national television station on Wednesday and said they had ousted President Umaru Mbalo and had shut the country's borders.
Mbalo had been vying for a second term in office during last weekend's presidential elections.
The country's electoral commission was due to release the provisional poll results today.
