And we said right afterward, we have to do something about this. Like this can't be about Meek Mill, the famous rapper. How do you take care of the everyday person? At that point, 5 million plus people that were on probation and parole. How do we fix the underlying problem? And we created the Reform Alliance. By the way, I'm talking about just making something up and going for it.
We started the Reform Alliance in 2019. We made a goal. We said, look, there's at this point about 5 million people on probation and parole. We think there should be a minimum of a million less people that we should be able to get out by changing the laws. That made no sense. We've got 850,000 people out of the system so far.
And by mostly been funded by the people we put together. It's like we made a difference there. Make a wish. Yeah. Thank you. Make a wish. Like, I got, I never really understood make a wish, if I'm being honest. And then we had a make a wish kid who wanted to go to the Sixers game with me. And it's actually a crazy story.
This kid, who was 18 years old, we were playing, the Sixers were a really good basketball team when this kid came. We were playing a shitty team. And I said, we're going to win this game for you, then we're going to bring you in the locker room. Of course, we went off to lose to the worst team in the NBA that night. I went back in the locker room.
I said to Joel Embiid and James Harden, I'm bringing this kid back. And they're like, don't bring anyone in the locker room. They were so embarrassed and mad. Of course, I went, got the kid, brought him in the locker room. And Joel and James Harden and... A bunch of the rest of the team, they spent like 45 minutes with this kid. And they were all texting me afterward.
They were like, man, that was so inspirational. This was incredible. Anyway, fast forward now. We do every sports Make-A-Wish together. Every WWE Make-A-Wish. I saw all these Make-A-Wish kids coming out of the, you know, doing the walkout for WWE. And these giant smiles on their face. So, like, giving back is the greatest thing you can do. And I'm going to tell you something.
Don't ever worry about trying to say, will this be good for me? Because you do the right thing, things come around. And we don't, you know, for now, I mean, we probably spent our charity giveaway 10 or 11 million bucks last year. Every year we give away more money. We try to make a difference in every way we can. And we love it. Our employees feel better about the company.
We love making a difference. And we never try to say, like, what's the payback on it? We just know you get the payback. And it's a great honor to be able to make a difference.
Well, listen, from my perspective, thank you to everything you guys have done. Thank you to everything you've done for WWE over such a long period of time and the huge impact you've had. And most importantly, thank you to all of you guys, the fans. We would all be nowhere without all of you guys. So thank you to you guys. I appreciate you guys.
