Okay. So for me, um, What are you doing instead? Because I know you're calling around. I'm calling around and I'm checking on how have they been? What's their history? Sometimes I'll meet someone and I'm like, this person's fucking incredible. I found the person. What questions are you asking? When you reference someone, what are you asking? How well do you know this person?
Are they a killer or not a killer? How smart are they? How do they work with other people? And I got to tell you something, of people that I interview that I love, Two thirds of the people I hear bad shit about. Okay. And I'm hearing stuff, they don't work well with others. Okay. Someone can be so smart, but they're going to be disruptive. That doesn't work. Okay.
Another thing that I would hear is they're kind of like the political, the big company. I don't want politics. I want, I want, you know, entrepreneurs.
Someone has to have a track record in the past of being a winner. Okay. Track record is the best prediction of the future. So what are the pattern recognitions you want to see? How has the person done? Are they a winner? Okay. Are they, do they find out how to win? So you're going to always find that by talking to people that they worked with in the past.
And I think the second thing is how do they work with others? Because when you interview somebody, you can't see how they work with others. And you really can't see like, Take anything great. How many, what's the best products Kim's make? Best products. The number one product.
Okay. That ultimate bra. How many people do you think in the world say they invented that ultimate bra?
50 people?
Yeah. They're all going to run around. I promise you, there are dozens of people saying, I invented the ultimate bra. Yes. Okay. So if I interview the person who says, I invented the ultimate bra, I'm going to Emma or Kim and saying, who invented this? Yes. Okay. Okay. I'm figuring that out to figure out, are they full of shit? Are they real? Okay.
So one, I want to figure out, you know, are they real winner? And two, I want to understand their track record. And then how do they work with others?
You are important in sport.
I love putting great rooms together because what happens when we put great rooms together? Great things happen. I remember seeing some of the people you went up to talk to.
Correct.
Right. And I said, who do you want to meet? Let's go see these people one by one. And to me, when you put great people together, great things happen. But for me, if I'm not just me- And I think people think like… He's full of shit. He wants something from me. They see through it. They know you're not authentic. So like… I can't even like… I don't ever like… I dress like this every day.
I don't ever… Like I think I wear a suit like… You know… Once a year for me.
A wedding. You know… A funeral or something. Like you have to wear a suit. Like you know… I'm a casual guy. Like I don't try to speak… more properly because it's not me. I curse because I want people to know like you're not cursing here, but I am because that's who I am. So I think like owning who you are, something that's really important.
And by the way, like I just try to be my, like my best self all the time. And I think, I think it does work for me. And I think people know that, like that they can trust that.
I would call you for anything I need to know you would do it for me. That's true. Well, I would now. That's true. But like, look, I think when you try to be calculated about if I do this for that person, this is what they'll do for me. I think you're dead before you start. Like, I always think if you just do great things, it comes back.
And so I think I've been fortunate that I like, look, I have guys like Robert Kraft. It's one of the, you know, he's one of the most important owners in sports. You know, he and his son, Jonathan Kraft, they took me Like they kind of took me in like 2008, 2009. And they helped me so much in business, both with advice and relationships. They never wanted a thing for me.
And by the way, they would kill for me and I would kill for them. And like, I wouldn't be here today. This I'm very sick without the two of them. I wouldn't be here. I would not be here today. Okay. there were a number of people like that, but I want to do that for everybody that I can.
And I don't ever want anything, but I also know like people always like friends work for each other behind the scenes. And so like, you know, to me, I remember saying to you when you were in the corner, you know, who do you want to meet? And, you know, I remember taking you to a couple of different great people. And like, I was honored to do that. Never thought about it again until right now.
