Sean, Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers yesterday told an investors conference that changes to capital gains tax and negative gearing will be good for productivity because they will shift investors away from established homes and into more productive activities.
He also suggested that there would ultimately be changes to the CGT rules, saying the government would soon release a policy position paper to deal with specific issues on CGT for small and startup businesses with a low or zero cost base.
Opposition leader Angus Taylor and frontbencher James Patterson have cut down a radical call by a Liberal MP to split up seats and effectively run in what would be maybe an informal right-wing coalition with One Nation.
