What I should have said to myself, go and get a life jacket, Mick, for Christ's sake, and I didn't.
So I walked down the alleyway and I spotted Malcolm McCarroll in the laundry...
someone had left the porthole open and water was pouring in.
And we both tried to push the porthole closed so we could put the latch on it.
We couldn't.
The amount of water that was coming through was no way we could stop it.
So Malcolm and I both took up the Campania Way onto the deck and it was probably close to 90 degrees now.
There was two or three other members of the crew on there as well.
We had a life raft and two lifeboats.
The lifeboats were useless to us.
Why were they useless to you?
One, because the lay of the ship, you would never get it off.
Either one.
Too far gone.
And otherwise, the tomahawks that were kept in the lifeboats were taken out by no other than the captain.
He took the tomahawks out of the boats.
Why?
Because he didn't want anybody to steal them.
And he put them in the radio shack and didn't tell anybody where he put them.
Well, it was in a box up on the deck, the poop deck, near where the lifeboats are, but useless.
