fix a few things in the training pitch we had to sort of come together it probably brought us closer together that night because there was a bit of shock to be fair for everyone connected to the club and obviously outside the club as well but from that moment onwards I genuinely believed that we could go on and win the league and it was just that bit of adversity probably helped us and then after that we were on a fantastic run Matt congratulations I was shouting for you today for manager of the year so I'll be looking for a free voucher but here's a massive question for you
I mean I think for me success is always winning trophies eh so I think I mean that obviously will be a night to go down in history I don't think MD will ever beat that achievement so and that probably puts my name and Davo's name in the sort of record books for the foreseeable future but I think real success is winning trophies and I think for being in my first year in professional football to win the league is aye I think this is the biggest achievement so far that seems like that's a good answer that is brilliant I've been there I've won leagues so I know how I feel absolutely
I mean, I think anyone who knows you, I've got a real belief in sort of playing real possession-based attacking football.
And it's always been the challenge every time I've moved up a level.
I mean, about six, seven years ago, I was managing Hampshire football and I took it to the juniors and at the low league and at the league too.
So there's always been that question asking, can I be successful at that as I progress through my career?
And I think that's one of the things I'm proud of this year that we've stuck to that.
I mean, the highest goal-scoring team in the country.
I think I was looking at all the statistics yesterday since records were sort of collated in 2015 we've got the highest rated possession percentage from Championship downwards ever so there's been loads and loads of positives so I think that's probably one of my proudest achievements and then it's just about then trying to continue that as we move into League 1 and stick to the same beliefs build the same philosophy same culture and then we'll see where it takes us
I mean, I think that's part of the challenge, Gordon, to go into that league now and try and add a little bit more experience, maybe a little bit more in quality.
There won't be a significant change in the group, to be fair.
I think one of the things we've done this year is attracted a lot of young players, early 20s.
And I think that's probably helped in terms of the coaching culture that's created here with myself and the staff.
And we'll try and sort of stick to that recruitment plan as we move forward.
But we are fully aware that going into League One is a significant challenge.
Obviously, Ross County coming down last night.
There's another couple of full-time clubs in there, so it'll be a real, real challenge.
But it's one we look forward to.
As I said, probably six, seven years ago, it was never a place I thought I would find myself.
So I'm excited to be the prospect.
