Millwall hold a far higher league position than Charlton and Wrexham simply looked a better prospect for promotion than Millwall.
sharpened up, you might say, by Pompey's two previous games into, according to Reagan Poole in a post-match interview, the fact that they modified their setup to cope both with Pompey's wide players in attack and their playing out from the back, which they'd obviously had a good look at against John and Millwall.
In other words, took Pompey seriously at the level of their recent results.
And Wrexham matched our energy in what turned out to be a very good first half for them.
But I'm sure Peter McGreal and the other 1,500 or more Pompey warriors who went to Wales were warmed by the second half.
Even John Massinio himself confessed he was surprised by the energy and challenge the Blues supplied after the break.
After all, not only was it the third away fixture, but we also lost during the game two of the success stories of the Millwall fixture in John Swift and Gustavo Caballero.
And yet, Sounders, we created 11 second half corners.
But they were grateful for the whistle.
And in all honesty, they looked the more tired at the end, after all our travels.
And Wrexham, they'll probably finish in the playoffs.
Good luck to them as far as I'm concerned.
