A spokesperson for Iran's military command said the country's armed forces are prepared for a decisive response to what it described as, quote, blatant aggression by the U.S.

But notably, the statement also suggested that any immediate retaliation is being held back, at least for now.

According to Iranian officials, some family members of the crew were aboard the ship at the time of the seizure, and Tehran says it is prioritizing their safety before taking further action because, as we know from the recent killing of thousands of their own citizens during the January protests, if there's one thing Iranian officials are known for, it's their concern for the safety and well-being of others.

And all of this is happening with a deadline looming.

The current ceasefire is set to expire later this week, and there's still no clear indication that a breakthrough is anywhere in sight.
