He sent some of his manifesto writings to relatives before the shooting, prompting one family member to alert police.

Now, those writings did not specifically mention the White House Correspondents' Dinner.

Another relative said he had been referencing a plan to do, quote, something.

At this time, the president has called for unity and bipartisan healing.

As for the Correspondents' Dinner, Trump said he hopes it can be rescheduled within 30 days.

Now, a post-incident review will undoubtedly ask how a man carrying multiple weapons was able to get as close as he did, moving through layers of protection while the president and his senior officials gathered all on one stage.

And given that the hotel was holding an event featuring almost every senior member of the administration...

Well, logic might tell you to do thorough due diligence on every single individual registered to stay at the hotel during this period of time.

One could argue that a thorough due diligence could have identified that the shooter's family had alerted police to his threatening behavior and disturbing writings.

As of this time, charges remain fluid and more are likely to be piled on.

But as of now, Allen faces assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon and using a firearm during a crime of violence.

He's expected to appear in federal court today.
