Never even heard of them.
I've literally just been Googling bear defense stories or whatever.
So this article, it's entitled, Are Handguns Effective Against Bear Attacks?
The author's name is Bob Robb.
Thanks, Bob.
He starts off, moved to Alaska in the early 90s.
Cheap big game hunting, yada, yada, yada.
He...
he was a major bow hunter.
Uh, he said he starts off saying he's naive.
He was quite naive to the potential dangers of Brown and grizzly bears up in Alaska when he bow hunted.
Um, this was before the days, uh, 500 Smith and Wesson mags, four 54 casuals, 10 mils, uh, stuff like that.
So the thing back in the day was to pack a rifle and,
And if you're going with somebody, they do the same.
Even if you're bow hunting, you take a rifle just in case.
So he's out there in the woods one October afternoon, and he stalks within 40 yards of a brown bear.
And the brown bear sees him, and he's like, oh, look, food, and charges him.
So Bob Robb has a Remington Model 700 and .338 Win Mag as his backup while he's bow hunting.
And as he quotes, by the grace of God was able to drop my bow, shoulder the rifle and get off a snapshot at 10 yards that miraculously hit the bear under the chin and broke his neck at the Atlas joint or I'd be dead.
So, yeah.
