I was thinking about importing 5e's death mechanics of three strikes to increase the odds of survival and have more character focused campaigns. I don't know. And, you know, it's I do know that there are times where players say something and they don't actually feel that way when it happens. So you will ask them, like, do you want a brutal, gritty system where you could die? Like, yeah.

And then their character dies like, oh, no, my character is dead. One way is to find out is to find out. Right. Like, I mean, you know, Shadow Dark is originally intended to be that kind of deadly system. And we've had characters who had really big backstories who were killed.

So, you know, again, you can kind of have that conversation again, but I might, I might have that conversation and then, you know, and see how they feel before I would start to implement any other kind of house rules. Shadow Dark already does have kind of a 5e style death mechanic, which is that you still, when you're down, you still roll of d4 to see if you get death saves.

And one of the, I have two tricks for that that I've used. One is there's no such thing as being stable at zero. You have to be healed or you die. That prevents having a character who's at zero who's being carted around in a cart that can't do anything and a player who can't really do anything until they get like a healing potion or something like that.

So my thought is you have to be restored to one hit point if you're going to be effective at all. Now you might decide that a survival or they're doing some kind of like survivally check of healing check gives them one hit point so they can still move around. You could decide to do that if you want to be really nice. Or you could just say that, no, you know, it doesn't matter how many death saves.

If you are not brought back by to at least one hit point by the end of your death saves, you're going to die. The other one is I like to roll that D4 as a GM and not tell the players what I got. So they don't know how many rounds the character is going to have before they die. The other side, though, is you might just try it, right? Just run it as is.

And if a character dies, they die, you know, to quote Draco from Rocky IV and see how it feels, right? And, you know, being cognizant of the players and their feelings on it. But you could also be like your players actually really wanted to play a more heroic fantasy RPG and found themselves in a dark RPG, right?
