Tom Dunn did the other the other one that really noticed that legendary monsters seem to have a spike in damage over normal monsters. And that tends to be because they no longer count legendary resistances as something that should affect challenge rating, which I think is smart because boss monsters, in my opinion, need help.

So Paul has his math here and he has like on a business card so you can do the equations. He also has a table that you can view and both of those are released under a Creative Commons license so you can use those and work.

I'm really good on Paul for releasing his information in a way that other publishers could use and recreate directly and not have to wonder like, am I stealing Paul's thunder if I'm doing that? So I think that's really outstanding. I actually have an easier one that I think it's kind of close enough.

The only reason why I think it's worth doing is because I think mine's something you can kind of keep in your head. If you needed to build a monster on the fly at any given challenge rating, you can sort of use your head math to figure out exactly what a monster is. This is also released under a Creative Commons license.

It's released under the Creative Commons license that we have for the Lazy GM resource document. And I modified it slightly. I added one number in one place. But basically, if you want to pick any monster, if you want to build monster stats very quickly at any challenge rating, the armor class and DC of that monster is 12 plus one half its challenge rating.

Its hit points is somewhere between 15 and 20 per challenge rating. You got that side. Is it a beefier monster? Give it more hit points. If it's less beefy, give it fewer hit points. Its attack and its primary proficient saving throws are 4 plus 1.5 CR. My original one said 3 plus 1.5 CR, but I really think that 4 plus 1.5 CR is probably a little bit better. And damage is 7 times challenge rating.
