I mean, obviously there's been many and they happen on a daily basis in New Zealand rescue operations.
Thank you to all of the legends who put themselves forward to help out in those situations.

I had never heard of this.
The 119 Day Miracle.
The Rose Noel.
The Crisis, 1989.
A boat had capsized in a storm off Great Barrier Island.
It was a recovery for four men presumed dead after months at sea.
So in 1989, this boat capsized in the storm.
Official search was called off after the beacon failed to register and the crew was given up for dead.
The men survived for 119 days inside the upturned hull on rainwater and raw fish.
When the wreckage finally drifted onto Great Barrier Island, locals launched a successful extraction.
The extreme survival story prompted New Zealand to revolutionise its satellite distress beacon system.
