These people are dangerous.
but not necessarily like direct threats from them saying, we'll kill you.
And I guess, why didn't that stop you?
Were you just headstrong?
So I'm not from the South.
And I think that that's helped me a lot.
Like I am from Kansas and my best friend and reporting partner, Liz, who's with me at the packet, she's from Boston.
So we both just kind of had an outsider's perspective on this whole thing.
And we're kind of just like,
Why?
Like, why don't you guys stand up to this system?
And people kept telling us over and over, like, nothing ever changes here.
And we were just like, well, why can't it?
I think it should.
This is really bad what's going on here.
And I think that and then the combination of just like, I met a lot of people in Hampton and got close with them.
