They rose to 212,000 in a week that included the president's holiday.
Economists were looking for 216,000.
eBay is cutting about 800 jobs, or about 6% of its full-time staff.
Those layoffs come a week after eBay announced it was buying a second-hand fashion retailer, Depop, for about $1.2 billion.
eBay shares at the opener up about 1%.
And keep an eye on Apple.
CEO Tim Cook posted this teaser on X about a product launch set for this Monday at the open Apple shares.
