They voted by a majority of seven to two to convict him of causing the death of his wife during this heated argument, which had happened on February 11th, the day the family arrived on the holiday.

And the jury foreman addressed the court in a very detailed statement and explaining that on the basis of the evidence submitted, the jury believed McArdle didn't set out deliberately to kill his wife that night and therefore they couldn't convict him of her murder.

But it also rejected what they called his highly implausible story that she had tripped and fallen to her death trying to prevent their son falling off this balcony.

The foreman said the jury was satisfied that the reconstruction of the fall by police and forensic experts showed she could not have fallen over the rail on her own, as he alleged.

And he summarized the findings saying that based on the evidence, the jury was satisfied in the heat of an argument which turned violent and which was heard by at least two witnesses at the time that McArdle had pushed her from the balcony, causing her to fall over the rail.

And they have always said that there was violence in the relationship before this incident happened in Spain.

So back to this last week.

And he goes missing to the extent that Gardaí believed that he's in some sort of jeopardy.

Some concern.

So they issue this missing person.

It's an interesting, I suppose... 26 years now since that happened and that what was their young child at that stage is an adult man and...

And in their appeal, the Gardaí said they were seeking the whereabouts of Dermot McGardle, 56, who was reported missing from Castle Bellingham in County Loud since Sunday, the 8th of March, 2026.

Described as five foot nine inches in height, of stocky build, of grey hair and blue eyes.

Dermot was last seen wearing a black jacket and dark jeans.

Gardaí are concerned for Dermot's well-being.
