I think the way it perfectly juxtaposes Saxon's experience at the White Lotus. And then we get to Lachlan. Lachlan is this blank canvas of the family pulled between two separate ideologies. His brother who values wealth and sex and money versus his sister who values spirituality and this deeper meaning to life. So because he is such a people pleaser, he does both, right?

He gets with the girl, quite literally fulfilling his brother's desire to get off in life by getting him off. However, that pisses off his brother and makes his brother angry. And I think what Lachlan's story is meant to show is that you cannot people-please your way into pleasing yourself. Because real happiness comes from within. And if you constantly spend your time trying to do things for someone else or impress somebody else, you are only using your energy for them, which will result in your own disappointment.

And that is not something that you can do for somebody else, be told by somebody else. Happiness is this own sense of morality, foundational, your job, your relationships, everything. And what's fascinating about the dad is he's really the only one that actually goes on any sort of spiritual epiphany. He starts thinking that his family is going to be absolutely miserable and die from this massive scandal that's about to happen to them. So he quite literally tries to kill them. But by the end of it, he realizes that his family is stronger than he thought they were.

And the dynamic between Victoria and the dad is so interesting because they never even touch each other once. No hug, no kiss, nothing. Like, Victoria is so disassociated from him that she never even notices that he was the one who stole her lorazepam.
