Since December 6th, hunters were allowed to kill black bears with a rifle or a crossbow, one bear each.

The state issued 172 bear hunt permits by lottery.

Some of them went to opponents who never intended to use them.

The state has not provided information on how many bears have been killed.

The legal advocacy firm Democracy Forward is asking a federal whistleblower agency to investigate violations of the Hatch Act by the Trump administration.

The Hatch Act restricts federal employees from engaging in partisan political activities while on duty.
