So I would cycle from Dingle to the Mahorees to go diving and cycle home.
So, like, it just was a great day out.
So I went down to the King of the Hill.
And now, granted, it was a very beginning of this outburst of triathlon.
Well, just in general, there were always very, very streamlined athletes at that time.
And I hadn't a clue what I was doing, but I had a good bike.
And I thought I really backed myself up.
And I remember when I was at the end, there was like, they were going home.
There was a woman waiting for the timing chip and there was a man ahead of me who was probably younger than I am now, but I was mortified that I was behind him.
I remember thinking to myself like I'm last and this lady said to myself you know you'll be so proud when you finish and I thought but sure I was proud when I started and I couldn't tally how that made me feel and I came home to Ventry and I just thought about like I'm brilliant and I'm last and I could not reconcile that statement and it was how I was viewed by other people.
So I met up with all the gang from the Thule swimmers and stuff that I had friends with.
And I said, look, will we do our own triathlon?
So we set up our first triathlon inventory in 2002.
Not a clue what we were doing, but we got 28 people.
And we had our transition area there.
You should have seen us the first morning.
We had a concrete block attached to a buoy and we're walking back to the beach trying to figure out where to throw it.
And they were all looking around.
We're saying like, how do we do this?
