Basically, so what I'm looking for is – look, great Australian saying –
I'm looking for people to swim between the money flags, to have a sense of personal safety.
And that is anyone ringing you, anyone calling you, anyone pulling you up on the street, anyone telling you can double your money in 12 months.
We need a personal sense of safety, which says that must be nonsense.
That's truly crazy.
But above all, to go forwards, we need to be able to say,
The reason I'm going forwards is not because I bought a property that doubled in value or a share.
Look, if that happens over time, that's wonderful.
Good luck to you.
But I want people to be able to say, I'm going forwards because I spend less than I earn and I put an amount aside on a regular basis to either repay debt, build a house deposit, or buy a few shares.
I don't much care what people do because if you actually spend less than you earn, it doesn't really matter, James.
It brings financial literacy alive.
not be ripped off isn't that it really isn't that it at least well it is but there's a bunch of new skills I've got my youngest daughter's 31 she's a smart young lady masters great uni blah blah blah but she was able to buy through spending less than she earned opportunity to buy a little apartment in Melbourne
And she was about to send the deposit to a lawyer.
And I just said, no, let's just sit down on this.
And so she got all the numbers and they all look right.
I said, no, let's not do this.
Let's ring the lawyer and confirm the bank account details.
Yeah, that's a good idea.
So rang the lawyer, confirmed the bank account details with the admin people there, sent them $100, got them to ring to say, oh no, didn't get them to ring, sorry.
