So here's the thing that these same sociologists have figured out, that we spend about 40% of our total available social energy on those five, the top five people in Dunbar's hierarchy.
Another 20% goes to the next 10.
And then 60% of everything we've, that makes up 60% of everything you've got.
Emotionally, the time that you have, it's all poured into about 15 people on average.
And everyone else, every friend from college that you used to poke on Facebook, every former co-worker, every person you bonded with at that one wedding that one time, it is competing for the remaining 40% of a resource you are already overdrawn on.
So Dunbar's research, back to Robin Dunbar, said it takes roughly two hours.
100 hours of investment over a few months to move someone from a stranger to a good friend.
200 hours.

That's five full work weeks.
