Although I was, you know, I was coaching at the time, but, um,
Yeah, it was just amazing.
I never, ever, ever grew up envisaging working in the media at all.
That wasn't planned and I've never planned anything in my life.
That's just how it worked out.
To be with those blokes, so iconic.
And my introduction came to it primarily through the Super League war back in the mid-90s.
And that's where I was asked to come into a more advertorial role for the ARL and Channel 9 who held the rights at that time.
So that's where my career sort of started in the media, not thinking it would last long term whatsoever.
But when I retired from coaching, it was a natural progression and I went into it.
And it probably stopped me from going back to coaching.
When I retired from coaching, I always thought I'd go back to it.
I always thought I would go back to coaching at some stage, but it never happened.
Did you ever get close?
Yeah, if I did, I went and banged my head against a concrete wall just until it went away.
I remember Peter Sterling came to me mid-90s and he said,
He'd had an offer to go and coach because everyone thought Sterlo would make a great coach.
And I said to him, you've got the best job in the world.
