And the man who drove that bike, Brian Mean, later convicted of murder.
He is now, he's 29 years into being in custody.
He was arrested in Holland in 1997.
He's now in Shelton Abbey.
open prison he has been getting occasional day release and this is a build up and I've seen it with other people serving life sentences preparation for he might get an overnight at some stage but he's been released on day release he's been up around Dublin City and around Crumlin and Kimmage where he's originally from and then he returns to prison
And it would seem maybe, I don't believe this year, but maybe in the next couple of years, he may get longer releases to one day maybe be released from his life sentence.
The gunman was never convicted of, was never caught and convicted of that crime.
But other people were brought to justice for other criminal offences as a direct result of the massive Garda investigation.
I was, yeah.
I took a day trip over, on spec as it were, to see what might happen.
So flew over that day to the High Court in London,
And lo and behold, that was the day that the judges threw out his challenge to his extradition.
Everything happened really quickly.
He was being flown back that day.
And so he was.
So I had to fly back.
I got a flight really quickly to be back in the special criminal court that evening when he was charged.
So a mad dash that happened.
I remember well.
I also remember Jimmy Guerin was on the flight back.
