I think this whole era for me was going through the beginnings of teenagehood and all I wanted to be was a popular American girl who was standing by her locker getting picked up by a guy in his gridiron uniform.
I just had these ridiculous fantasies.
I just wanted to be popular and American.
That was my idea of a good life back then.
And American culture was so omnipresent.
I mean, it always has been in living memory, but it was particularly in the 80s and the 90s that it was pushed hard, you know, into the rest of the world.
It really influenced my childhood as well, and I think, again, any Gen Xer would feel the same.
It really felt like something to aspire to, and everything that we were watching on TV was, you know, fuelled by American culture.
That whole idea of, you know, high school American TV shows...
Completely different to the way that we go to high school, but we all craved it.
It was so huge in the 80s and the 90s.
And just things like, you know, having a pair of Reeboks was just like the ultimate thing in the world.
