They said that if someone were to pay in cash, they didn't necessarily need to provide identification.
So they had no one on file under Madison Marshall, but that only meant that she likely paid in cash.
It didn't mean that she wasn't there.
So detectives examined the surveillance footage from March 4th, 2023, the same day that she was reportedly dropped off there.
The footage did show her waiting for a bus before boarding one that was headed towards North Carolina.
Of course, even if they knew she was headed east, that didn't really give officers much.
That is an entire state and there was no way they'd be able to find her with just that limited information.
So they ended up speaking with Zack Snow to see if he knew anyone Madison was close with in the state.
And thankfully, he did.
Turns out one of Madison's closest friends is in Bladenboro, North Carolina.
Zach said that if that's where she's headed, there's no doubt that she would be staying with that friend.
So officers found the friend's address and by March 23rd, they showed up and lo and behold, Madison was in fact at the friend's house with freshly dyed black hair.
Madison was immediately arrested and charged with neglect of a dependent before being booked into the Marion County Jail.
After her arrest, officers really put the pressure on Madison.
They interrogated her, demanding answers for where Oakley was.
And finally, that same night, Madison told investigators what happened.
After a month of evading her own family and friends, lying about what happened, and trying to escape all responsibility, Madison was finally ready to talk.
She started by talking about the physical abuse Oakley endured at Roan's hands for weeks and months leading up to her death.
She said that Roan would frequently whoop or spank her as punishment.
He even occasionally choked her out.
