And it was the year, I think, that they used the first video phone.
That was 1994.
Anyway, me and Frank Stapleton were broadcasting in the middle of the night the lesser games.
Can't even remember what they were.
Now, you see, if I was a sports journalist, I'd be able to remember the games.
The only thing I do remember from that is that Ireland were beaten by Mexico.
And that day I was at a friend's wedding.
And they stopped the wedding so that people could watch the game.
Because you see, we'd beaten Italy and it was all, there was a big hoo-ha about it.
And then Ireland lost, which put a bit of a damper on the whole wedding.
They're still happily married, that couple.
Thanks for asking.
And then I had to leave the wedding and come back into RTE and stay up late into the night presenting with Frank Stapleton.
And nobody wanted to be there because everybody was on a downer.
Because you have to remember, even the people who
do the reporting and the people who work the cameras and the directors and the producers and the researchers, they're all Ireland supporters as well.
So on the night when we were beaten by Mexico, nobody wanted to be there.
And I think it showed.
Anyway, I won't be going back and watching a recording of that.
Not that I watch recordings of anything ever.
