But there's not enough money to pay them all back because what Ellie is doing is a big Ponzi scheme and this always happens in Ponzi schemes.
They always end up falling apart.
And one guy who owns the investment firm, he starts thinking, why isn't there enough money to pay all these people back?
And he suddenly gets suspicious that something shady is going on.
So he and his business partner, they set up some meetings with Ellie.
And in those meetings, he secretly records him.
And Ellie straight up admits that, yeah, he's been using a fake name and that the investors are getting screwed over because everything he's been doing is just a scam.
And eventually, the owner of the investment firm and his business partner, they take all of this information to the FBI.
And they say that they want to confess to being involved in a Ponzi scheme, and they give them all the recordings they made.
And so, bam, Ellie is arrested for a third time.
And I don't have a mugshot, but here's a picture of him in real life.
And so ultimately he goes to trial again, and he's convicted again, and he gets sentenced to 37 years in prison.
And who knows, maybe he'll get lucky and the president will commute his sentence again.
On their wedding night, this couple made a really weird pact.
They agreed that if either of them ever cheated, that they were then obligated to kill the person they cheated with.
Well, guess what happens?
So this story starts with this guy, Jason.
And Jason's around 28 when all this begins, and he's living in Indiana.
And one day in 2009, his whole life gets screwed up.
Because on that day, he's out cleaning swimming pools, because that's his job, he's a pool technician.
