My BBC Burmese colleagues are getting reports and images and videos from Mandele, mainly. And the situation is very grim. They're getting reports now of schools collapsing, at least five hotels in Mandele. and also significant historic buildings in the city.
So an ancient mosque, also a monastery has collapsed and they're also getting images of fires that have broken out in some of the universities in that city and also images of makeshift hospitals, so beds out in the open with people with serious wounds. So it's a very chaotic and very bleak picture that we're getting.

And the situation in Myanmar before this earthquake was dire. We're talking about millions of people displaced because of the civil war. The United Nations was already warning that a third of the country would need aid this year. So that situation coupled with the civil war means that this is going to be bad.
