And just in case you needed an additional twist, the omniscient AI that controls their lives has cleared everybody's memories of the night of the murder.
So you know that one of them's the murderer, but they don't know, even if they are, who did the murder.
It's twisty, it's kind of warped, but it is absolutely brilliant.
Because the AI has dropped the barrier once the murder has happened and will only lift the barrier again to prevent the fog from approaching the island if the murder is solved.
It's called The Last Murder at the End of the World.
And it examines questions of artificial intelligence, truth and lies, genetic modification, and also cyborgs and so on and so forth.
I mean, there's a bit of science fiction.
There's a bit of classic horror, a bit like James Herbert's Fog in there.
And there's an awful lot of my favorite sort of detective fiction in there.
It's really clever.
And it's also quite a delve into human nature.
You know, there's this island.
There's only 125 souls left.
And yet human nature still suggests that rather than wanting to live in a utopia.
We're going to be jealous and murderous.
And petty.
Yes, destroy ourselves.
That's funny.
I mean, I'm a massive fan of radio drama.
I always have been.
