I needed help to get back down to Delhi to get a flight and I was so thin, so weak, but I was very contagious and no one would come near me.
I remember getting on one of the trains to Lucknow and, I mean, I was yellow, I was as thin as anything and three tiers in the carriage in the trains in India for class and
And they saw me and I've never forgotten this.
The whole family came off.
They came off the top and they let me lie down at the top.
I've never forgotten the goodness of those people.
And this one German traveller, he looked after me and he carried my pack because I was just so thin.
Got to Delhi.
I still had dope with me.
I can't believe, you know, that's how stupid I was.
I just kept carrying drugs with me, which soothed a bit of the pain.
And I managed to get on a plane to London.
I managed to get through, but then by the time I got to Manchester, I just got a cab to the Infectious Diseases Hospital, gave them the note from the doctor in Nepal, and they immediately took me into isolation.
By then, I'm about six stone ringing wet, and it took a year to recover.
So they said, you can't drink alcohol for 12 months and I heard that.
What I didn't hear them say was, but you can't take drugs.
Yeah, they didn't say that.
They just said you can't take alcohol.
So I thought, fine, but...
That year that I was staying at home, I was straight.
