So you were to take this cargo up to King Island in Bass Strait, so from one end of Tasmania to the other, if you like, and you can either go up the east coast of Tassie or the west coast.

The east coast was going to be the longer way, but the conditions would be milder.

The west coast would have been quicker, but more unpredictable, more treacherous conditions.

So when you set out out of the Derwent estuary, you're sitting too low in the water, you're taking the more treacherous west coast route.
