I remember being nervous, and we had a party at our house a few days beforehand, and, yes, I must have been thinking, oh, you know, there could be side effects and I wouldn't be able to enjoy my life like I could before.
I remember Brenda saying something, no, no, it'll be fine, and the operation went fine.
I went home, I think.
Two days after the operation, a couple of hiccups in the 24 hours afterwards, but then the medication related and when we got through them, it was all good.
Well, I did for a couple of weeks.
But then I started working again and exercising to the joys that I find in life.
Yeah, you've nailed it there, Sarah, definitely.
Yeah, more so, I think, at that stage, yeah, mental health.
And I think throughout my life it's been something that's been a useful tool for me.
Some people, it really does help them mentally by doing exercise, and there's other people who don't find the same thing and just go with the flow.
What feels right for you, do that.
May the 20th was when I had the seizure.
So there's a meeting, the International Academy of Pathology meeting the first week of June and I was receiving an award then and
the word had started to get out that I had this brain tumour and I was getting hundreds of text messages and I was receiving an award at that meeting and I would record the video for the award that was being given out and the president rang me and said, can I make a public announcement of what's happened to you?
And I said, yes.
And, um,
And then many friends and colleagues were reaching out even more and at that stage I thought, well, the odds are that I'm going to die in the not too distant future and to make a memory for my children about what had happened and also to inform colleagues and friends from around the world what was happening, it felt right.
I think that the main side effects from immunotherapy, Georgina knows like the back of her hand.
She's probably given more immunotherapy than any other doctor in the world.
So as far as managing those and knowing how to spot them, yeah, I had great confidence in her and the team who were looking after me.
