You might have come across her work.
Now, both of you have read this book called An American Marriage by Tayari Jones.
Who's she and what's it about?
Yeah, I was going to ask, actually, what's behind the title, An American Marriage?
I mean, you're really inviting people to make big extrapolations.
Yeah, it's laden, redolent with meaning there.
You've got me intrigued.
Rowena, thank you so much for being part of our conversation and telling us all about An American Marriage.
Very insightful.
Rowena's latest book is The Permanent Resident and it's published by UWA.
Yeah, delight to have her along.
This is The Bookshelf on RN.
And just before we leave you, Kate, you started to tell us about something last week.
It was a Twitter book club that was rereading a fantasy novel from the 1970s.
Yeah, I just love the organic nature of what happened with that The Dark is Rising.
Susan Cooper, she must have been a contemporary of Ursula Le Guin, who we lost this week.
Oh, okay.
Well, we can get on board with that one.
Yeah, it was sad to see Ursula Le Guin passing and I wonder whether her legacy will be
as much as a fantasy writer, as a feminist writer and one that influenced generations of young women and other female writers.
