You know, Sarah, sometimes you hear terrible stories about these reunions that work out terribly, but in our case it has been, when all's said and done, been joyful.
Just happened not to mention it for 36 years.
Well, because after I got the letter in the letterbox, fortunately I got the mail that day.
So I went up immediately and saw Jay's profile picture online and left it on the computer.
And so when Lizzie came back, we had dinner, gave her a few drinks, stiff drinks.
I said, go upstairs, will you?
And I have a look on the screen.
There's someone there.
I just want you to, I want to ask you whether that person reminds you of anyone.
And she went upstairs, came back and said, no, who's that?
And I said, well, that's actually a daughter I had when I was 18.
And she said, is there anything else you want to tell me today?
And I said, not today.
I was kind of weirdly acting under instructions.
Thinking that I would never find the child, I had just gone on with life and thought, well, what's the point of actually dragging this whole thing into the equation when it'll just cause terrible heartache because we'll never find each other?
But quite the contrary happened.
Jay is quite magnificent in every respect.
I was out of hospital recovering from the leg injury and as a kind of a come home, get well present, mum and dad would take me into Harry Landis, the music shop in Park Street in Sydney and bought me this drum kit.
And so before my leg was even healed, I was pounding away at this real drum kit at last and
