Advertising the Sydney Morning Herald.
Yeah, single wanted, you know.
What were you offering?
Must have our own PA.
You know, the kind of ad that you put in.
And the only person that actually answered the ad was this fellow who was a couple of years older than us who had long blonde hair and was already driving.
He turned up in an old Peugeot 404.
Came in and we said, what do you know?
And he said, well, I know some Skyhooks and I know some Jethro Tull.
So we said, well, we have a Jethro Tull song in our set already, Locomotive Breath.
And so Pete sang that in this high octave kind of rendition and a couple of songs, I think a slow blues.
And then he just sort of, you know, did the audition and then looked at these kids, what we were, and thought,
He had just started at ANU down there and we were still kids, you know, a crazy dream.
So he got back in the Peugeot and left.
We thought that would be the end of that, you know.
But Jim and I had a chat afterwards and thought, not a great singer, you know, but amazingly charismatic and no one will ever forget him.
