For the mega nerds who are still here, there's a really important question for us as teachers to address, which is why can PE present a syncope?
Because the blockage is there.
If a patient plummets their blood pressure to cause syncope, how do they wake up again?
And the answer I thought was that they would have spontaneous thrombolysis and they would break up some of their clot and they would perfuse.
Again, that's not the correct answer.
This is the power of reading and reflection.
I want all of you, I won't talk about it, all of you to read about the Beazled-Jerish Reflex.
And it will hopefully inspire even more reading and learning.
So patients with PE syncope, not because of anything else, but because of a pathological, vagal response that they have.
It's called the BESOL and Jerich reflex.
