It was always going to end up down this way.

I just remember when the competition started, they sort of said, should we go for private ownership?

No, let's just see if we can hang on.

But the trouble is,

Australia did not get a great television rights deal.

It has so many bills to pay in cricket, Cricket Australia.

It lost $11 million last year.

It needs cash.

So it's got to look at every option.

I'm thinking that the very few teams ever enter a World Cup with as much sort of, ah, I would love to enter a World Cup with the sort of positivity and lack of real huge pressure as Australia because they've got there, for goodness sakes.

All you've got to remind yourself is this.

Italy's missed the last three World Cups and Australia's playing in this one.

And, Gerard, here's the thing.

Anything they do, if they make progress, if they make the second round,

being the underdogs is just a beautiful place to be you think of the pressure on teams like Brazil and Argentina where their every move is will define their lives in Australia we think hey we're there and you know what let's just remind ourselves that Australia's ranked 27th in the world Turkey is 22 the United States is 17 but that they're not

outrageously ahead of us on the rankings.

Australia can pull off upsets here.

It's great.
