How did that shoot, if we use him as an example, come about and then like for you to get such a closeness to him where he was so like vulnerable with you?
I was also wondering whether because music was the thing that led you to want to take portraits, like in terms of all the subjects, they were always musicians.
But do you think out of your shyness, there's something about the performer in them that is what you tried to capture?
Because I feel like uniquely in your images, people do perform, but in this really intimate way.
And did you feel like it was a way for you to communicate through taking pictures?
Did you always want to take black and white images as well?
If we think of some of your specific images as well, there's one of David Bowie from 1980, which I just absolutely love because it's almost like religious or something.
I feel like you really get to the truth of him in that moment.
Like even though it's elevated, he has this like honesty in his face.
You said earlier you have Captain Beefheart works on the wall hanging behind you.
That's interesting as well to me, because I actually think your pictures sort of live on now as these elevated documents of these incredibly creative, talented people.
And in a way, I think sometimes people are discovering the work of these people through your imagery as well.
