It is definitely part that one of the things happening here is companies are like, I don't know how AI is going to affect my future hiring.
So maybe that's contributing to the wait and see.
But again, it's really hard to parse that in the data.
And I think really quickly, just one thing I'll add here is that
The reason why you might see, you might expect uncertainty to lead to less hiring is especially hiring young people is an investment, right?
It's a big investment in the future.
Yeah, that's an important point to make.
Right?
A young person is not going to come into a workplace and be productive right away, right?
It's going to take time for them to learn the trade, for them to get acquainted.
And so...
Anytime you're bringing on a young person, you are saying, I'm making an investment in the future.
I believe that there's a future of growth and prosperity.
And so I'm bringing this young person in that I know might not be able to improve the business right away, but over time will.
And if you are uncertain about the future, you are gonna stop making all future investments.
And especially, you're probably gonna stop making this one, which takes a lot of time and effort and sacrifice in order to make.
And so I think that is how the uncertainty connects to why we might be seeing an especially tough hiring environment
I'm really glad you brought in demographics because when I was working on this set of pieces, there was a study that I came across on this precise point that totally changed how I viewed things.
So this paper was, I love the title, it's called Countries for Old Men.
And it is basically these two Italian economists
