And he wrote a play called The Metaphysics of the Two-Headed Calf, set in Australia.
And Act One, however, is set in New Guinea, Port Moresby.
And I translated that play.
And in fact, I directed it at the Pram Factory.
I don't know, listeners of an older vintage would remember.
Particularly those in Melbourne, yes, the APG, the Pram Factory.
So that was the first production of a Vitekiewicz play in Australia.
So there's Polish drama, but there's also Polish novels that I read, but some of them aren't translated, unfortunately, and Polish literature is just so amazing, so rich.

But I didn't learn Japanese.
I was in Poland.
And if anybody's interested, I published some months ago an autobiography called The Unmaking of an American about becoming an Australian, giving up American citizenship.
And in that, I describe this spy scandal that I was innocently involved in when I was in Poland.
So I thought, well, I'll never be able to go back to Poland again.
But I thought, what am I going to do?
And I went back to the United States in May 1967.
And I had lost my student deferment.
