All that DNA has been floating about in there. And you think, oh for goodness sake, now guys, like this is, you know, it is one thing to say, you know, women are stupid bitches and all sorts of terrible things. But, you know, seriously, you're just making up the science now, you know. And it was kind of, it was really frightening because we just saw misinformation at play. You know, the thing we're all warned about. And it was happening right in front of our eyes. And they were all just in this kind of echo chamber of agreement. And then Louis was like, wait, stop.

It was really actually interesting to see the herd mentality going on. None of them questioned it for a split second because it just aligned with what they wanted to believe. Absolutely, yeah. But we got a bit of a flavor of this kind of the manosphere and the likes in the Netflix documentary Adolescence last year around how young boys are being radicalized online. But what are the core beliefs of the manosphere and how do they kind of gain these members?

James Blake from Northern Ireland had a really brilliant documentary on the manosphere, but it was done in a way that it was dealing with individuals who had been kind of radicalized by the manosphere as opposed to those key figures, which I actually thought was a lot more interesting because it kind of got into the psyche of how this can happen. What would you say are the profiles of those individuals that were in James Blake's documentary?

As a result a lot of it is just the loneliness epidemic that a lot of people are experiencing and I think that's down to phones and the likes and social media at a young age. They think they can find that by becoming this big muscular Chad-esque type of person. There seems to be kind of a whole new language in the manosphere and there's a lot of different words thrown around kind of like red pilling and categorizing people as Chad. Can you kind of go into what kind of words they use in the manosphere?

I suppose you could say it's absolutely daft what they're looking for from people in terms of physique and how you should present yourself as a male. It's just absolutely bonkers. I've been absolutely hooked to watching stuff on it at the minute. But when you look at the men, I suppose, featured in this documentary, what did you notice was kind of the common thread between them? Because I know obviously Louis did some digging into kind of their home lives and stuff like that.

Is it any wonder some of them go down a rabbit hole and find it really hard to get out of it again. And it makes it more difficult for them to interact, you know, even just in social situations, you know, they're not being socialized the same way. If they are in this echo chamber of TikTok manosphere content, it makes them progressively angrier at the world while also isolating them from the world. And it's just the vicious cycle. And again, it's just putting basically a foot on the head of women again and again and targeting, you know,

ihmisiä, jotka ovat homofobitseja ja erilaisia rasioita. Se on todella, todella hauskaa. Todella hauskaa. Mutta Róisín, sinä kertoisit, että viollisuudesta naisille suomalaisille, näetkö, että näkökulmat ovat todennäköisesti kasvaneet.

Northern Ireland is a dangerous place to be a woman. And I feel we're not too far off here in the South as well. It's just that normalization and the casualization of this kind of targeted hate and abuse towards women. It's exhausting to listen to first and foremost, and it's really just frightening.
