begin to descend and you touched on the Ferguson thing which was unavoidable in the documentary which was in many ways Beckham signed off on certain things but it was such a big story at the time he couldn't gloss over that that Ferguson the extent to which he rated him as an automatic starter in his team had dissipated and by 2002-3 he was being phased out so to me what I find a shame is for Beckham football
And that's why he kept coming back.
I think he immediately regretted that decision.
So much so that he kept getting these loan moves back so he could kind of stay in contention for the England.
Then they didn't even qualify for Euro 2008, despite Steve McLaren balking at the criticism and eventually bringing him back.
And he actually played quite well in that game against Croatia.
I don't know if you remember, but he came in and had an impact there.
And then even laterally, he's involved with Salford.
He's got the inter-Miami thing, which he doesn't need to be bothered with any of this.
That's why his football career went on as long as it did, even though he could have pursued any of these other avenues.
And that's why he's still involved in football now, because it gives him a grounding and a relevance that this other stuff doesn't.
And I just find that he'll never be fulfilled.
Like he probably thought the knighthood was something he could chase and that would make him feel like mission complete.
