Well, you would have gone to it a couple of times, the Indosport Awards.
Sports started the year and the kind of grandees.
It was a great night before Christmas where we didn't sell tables to it.
It was kind of the same group of people plus the nominees every year.
And
Ronnie Delaney I think he was a Hall of Fame winner and they were always invited back and he would always come and I had the pleasure of sitting beside him one year and Ronnie Delaney was a man you know it was
I think humility is one of life's most overrated qualities.
Ronnie Delaney, if you asked him about his achievement and what it was like in Melbourne, he would talk to you for hours and hours about it.
He was only too happy to talk about it.
And I don't mean this in any way snide way.
He was proud of the fact that he won a gold medal for Ireland.
He was happy to dine out on it.
He was happy to talk about it.
I've listened to him being interviewed about it as well.
He was able to talk right up until the last time I heard him talk with incredible clarity about it.
He was able to recall...
the injury trails he had going into the race what it was like in the race what the stadium was like he was he had a remarkable mind he had a remarkable ability to conjure up the images of the day and yeah i think just the reason we didn't hear from him as often as i'd say he would happily come in and chat and was just because it was so long ago when he was almost his name from a bygone age even though he was still around and he was a lovely warm man he was um
He was an icon, like he was on the front cover of Sports Illustrated in his day.
And yeah, it's just that it happened so long ago that he almost got to see his own legacy kind of remembered in its own way.
But it was so long ago and even the footage re-emerging this week.
