And then a number of years ago, I was in the company of another Mayo woman.
We were having a few glasses of wine and the subject of Mary Duffy came up.
And she mentioned how Shaw and Evans had tried to abduct her before Mary Duffy was killed.
And I was like, what did you say?
And then we exchanged stories and they were very similar.
Her attempted abduction took place in a town closer to Castle Bar.
I just feel so lucky.
So, so lucky.
And I think it must be so difficult for Elizabeth's two sisters to speak up now.
but I admire them so much for doing it.
Shaw and Evans were at large for only a month.
In that time, they covered a lot of the country and committed the most awful crimes.
And one of these men, Shaw, has applied for parole.
On the 3rd of June, the Plunketts received an email from the prison service with news about John Shaw's parole application.
While the Plunketts are relieved to hear that Shaw has been refused parole this time, they are acutely aware that the process will continue and that they still remain outside of that process.
Before you know where you are, it's on top of you again.
So our chap now is due to apply for parole on February 26th.
And if we're not part of that system by February 26th, we're on the same boat.
At the beginning of May this year, the Plunkett Solicitor, James McGill, sent a detailed letter to the Garda Commissioner, the DPP and the Minister for Justice.
James has raised the many new developments in the last year.
