President Trump says that due to what he calls great progress being made toward an agreement to end the war with Iran, the U.S.
will stop helping guide ships through the Strait of Hormuz, but the U.S.
's latest effort to move ships safely through the strait did not seem broadly successful.
Only two U.S.-flagged ships have traversed the strait.
There are about 1,500 ships stuck in the Persian Gulf.
About 1,000 of them are large ocean-going vessels like oil tankers.
President Trump today again criticized Pope Leo over his speaking out against the war with Iran.
NPR's Jason Derose reports the pope has again responded,
Senate Republicans are asking for $1 billion in security upgrades for President Trump's ballroom project.
Trump renewed his push for it after a man was charged with trying to assassinate him at the White House Correspondents Association dinner.
Trump previously said no taxpayer dollars would be used for the new ballroom.
Democrats oppose funding the ballroom, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation has sued to stop it.
